On the 15th, Liberation Day... 'Independence Army Arirang' Performance to Be Presented Along with the Inauguration Ceremony
Miryang City in Gyeongnam announced on the 12th that the Miryang Arirang Arts Troupe will hold its inaugural ceremony and present its debut performance, "Doknipgun Arirang," at the Grand Theater of the Miryang Arirang Art Center on the 15th to commemorate the August 15 Liberation Day.
The "Miryang Arirang Arts Troupe" was formed after being selected in May for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's public project, "Regional Representative Arts Group Development Support Project."
The "Regional Representative Arts Group Development Support Project" is an initiative by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to discover and foster arts groups that will be active in local areas, based on unique regional content, as part of its vision for a "local era led by culture and balanced development driven by culture."
With the aim of revitalizing local culture and arts, the troupe will collaborate with the Miryang City Cultural City Center to develop new local cultural and artistic content that embodies the value and meaning of Miryang Arirang, while also taking the lead in creating jobs for local artists.
After holding an information session for recruitment in June, the troupe selected 97 members through auditions in July, including 28 local artists, 16 young artists, and 53 members of the Arirang Young Talent Foundation. Since then, they have focused on strengthening their capabilities through workshops led by experts in choreography, vocals, drama, music, and dance.
As the inaugural performance of the Miryang Arirang Arts Troupe, the musical "Doknipgun Arirang," which depicts the achievements of independence fighters from Miryang, will be staged at the Grand Theater of the Miryang Arirang Art Center on the 15th.
On the day of the inaugural event, there will also be a talent poetry recital titled "A Shining Star in My Heart" in memory of martyr Choi Subong, as well as a Liberation Day performance by the Arirang Young Talent Foundation, composed of about 50 children.
Mayor Ahn Byunggu stated, "The Miryang Arirang Arts Troupe will play a significant role in discovering and developing the diverse and unique cultural and artistic content of Miryang, as well as creating jobs for local artists. We will continue to support an environment where local artists can freely create and perform, so that not only artists who have left their hometown but also young artists from Yeongnam will be drawn to Miryang."
