Each of the 5 Senior Centers in Gangseo to Receive 2 Million Won in Support
In order to assist elderly individuals in welfare blind spots, Korea Racing Authority Let's Run Park Busan Gyeongnam (Director: Um Youngseok) is launching a support project for unregistered senior centers in collaboration with the Busan Gangseo Senior Welfare Center.
Unregistered senior centers refer to facilities that function as senior centers but have not been officially registered as senior leisure welfare facilities due to not meeting requirements such as facility standards or staffing. Many of these centers operate without an operating budget and often receive little or no support for heating and cooling expenses, making it extremely difficult for seniors to use these centers during the summer.
This project was planned to help elderly individuals at unregistered senior centers who are enduring the summer heat with only hand fans or a single electric fan, as record-breaking heatwaves continue. As part of Let's Run Park Busan Gyeongnam's community problem-solving social contribution initiatives, this project will provide 2 million won in operating funds to each of five unregistered senior centers in Gangseo-gu, Busan (Daejihari, Daejihaji Halmeoni, Sinchon, Okpo, Hwajeon) to ensure a safe and comfortable summer for the elderly.
Additionally, to help seniors enjoy a healthy and active later life, the project will support a variety of physical activity-based leisure programs once a week and a visiting cultural performance once a month. Furthermore, a total of 30 million won will be invested in projects to improve senior welfare, such as remodeling outdated senior center restrooms, with activities continuing through October this year.
A representative from Let's Run Park Busan Gyeongnam stated, "With the super-aging era approaching, we determined that establishing a safety net for elderly care and vulnerable groups is urgent, which is why we are carrying out this project," adding, "We will continue to provide ongoing support in cooperation with related organizations."
Korea Racing Authority Let's Run Park Busan Gyeongnam is working together with local governments near the racetrack, such as Gimhae City Hall and Busan Gangseo-gu Office, to implement a variety of social contribution programs aimed at resolving local issues. By investing 120 million won in nine projects, including multicultural youth cultural and arts education support, climate crisis awareness education, and meal box services for vulnerable groups, the organization is putting the value of regional coexistence into practice.
