Record Summer Peak Power Demand on the 5th
"High Power Demand Expected to Continue for the Time Being"
On the 5th at 5 p.m., the maximum summer power demand reached 93.8GW. With the heatwave expected to continue after Liberation Day, high power demand is projected to persist for some time, prompting the government to inspect the status of power facility management.
According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, on the 12th, Second Vice Minister Choi Nam-ho visited the transmission towers of the Jochiwon-Jeonui transmission line, which was previously installed and is managed as a vulnerable facility, to directly check the preemptive measures against disasters such as heavy rain and typhoons, and to inspect the emergency response system.
At the site, Vice Minister Choi emphasized, "For stable supply management during the summer, it is important to operate and manage not only power generation facilities but also transmission and transformation facilities stably," adding, "For vulnerable points with concerns such as flooding and aging, minimize the risk of failure through systematic pre-inspections, and establish and implement a thorough emergency response system to enable rapid recovery even if unexpected failures occur."
He continued by urging related agencies to collaborate and do their best to ensure stable grid operation so that power facility failures do not affect the safety of our citizens and business activities, as power demand can increase at any time due to the ongoing heatwave. He also encouraged the employees working on-site during the hot summer and requested that efforts be made to ensure their safety management.
