Sacheon City to Promote Construction of Aerospace Farm Demonstration Center

Strategy Presentation through Meeting with National Assembly Member Seo Chunho

Sacheon City in Gyeongnam is set to establish the 'Aerospace Farm Demonstration Center' to prepare for the era of space life following the opening of the Aerospace Administration and to perform an optimized role in the field of space agriculture.

On the 7th, the city held a meeting at the Sacheon Agricultural Technology Center with National Assembly member Seo Chunho (Sacheon, Namhae, Hadong) and requested active cooperation for the establishment of the Aerospace Farm Demonstration Center.

The Aerospace Farm Demonstration Center focuses on developing suitable plants for establishing a food supply system in space, as well as securing food safety and cultivation technologies for producing food under extreme conditions such as the space environment.

At this meeting, National Assembly member Seo Chunho, Kim Seongil, head of the Sacheon Agricultural Technology Center, and relevant officials attended and held in-depth discussions on the plan to establish the 'Aerospace Farm Demonstration Center'.

In particular, it was decided to invest approximately 22 billion KRW over six years from 2025 to 2030 to establish the Aerospace Farm Demonstration Center, and a research service will be launched in November.

The city expects that, as a 'strategic project' leading space well-life, the innovation of agricultural technology and preparation for future agriculture will greatly contribute to strengthening food security in response to climate change and population growth.

Seo stated, "The Aerospace Administration has been established for humanity's space exploration, and various measures must be devised to prepare for life in space," adding, "I hope that the establishment of the Aerospace Farm Demonstration Center will serve as an opportunity for Sacheon City to lead the space agri-food industry."
