On the 12th, according to the AI industry and others, the 'Center for Security and Emerging Technology' (CSET) at Georgetown University in the United States recently released a summary of various AI achievements by private companies worldwide.

Based on the end of last year, CSET compiled the performance of companies by selecting highly cited outstanding AI papers published over the past 10 years. In this ranking, Alphabet, the parent company of Google in the U.S., published the most highly cited outstanding papers with 3,374. Microsoft (2,762), Meta, the operator of Facebook (1,120), and IBM (963) followed.

Samsung Electronics ranked 14th with 293 papers. Samsung Electronics was the only Korean company included in the top 100 AI paper rankings.

AI papers require significant costs for research computing facilities and other expenses, so companies with large capital resources often lead rather than universities. For this reason, in the AI industry, the number of papers is considered a key indicator to assess a company's AI research and development (R&D) capabilities.

Among the top 100 papers, 61 companies were from the U.S., making up the majority, while 21 companies from China, including Tencent (5th place, 948 papers) and Alibaba (6th place, 731 papers), were included. Japan had seven companies in the top 100, including Toyota (13th place, 313 papers) and Mitsubishi Corporation (20th place, 110 papers).

Samsung Electronics ranked 11th globally with 525 papers accepted at top AI academic conferences. The company with the most papers accepted at top conferences was Microsoft (4,305 papers), followed by Alphabet (4,194 papers) and China's Tencent (1,880 papers). Due to the rapid pace of AI research presentations, whether a paper is accepted at major academic conferences is also an important indicator.

In terms of AI-related patents registered over the past 10 years, Samsung Electronics ranked 4th worldwide with 6,032 patents, following China's Baidu and Tencent, and the U.S.'s IBM.
