Guro District to Provide Filial Piety Allowance (200,000 KRW) to Families Caring for Seniors Aged 100 or Older

Guro District (Mayor Moon Heonil) will provide a filial piety allowance of 200,000 KRW per household starting in August to families caring for seniors aged 100 or older, in order to promote a culture of filial piety and enhance senior welfare.

As of July 31, 2024, there are 20 seniors in Guro District who have turned 100 years old, and 37 seniors aged 100 or older.

The eligibility for the filial piety allowance is limited to the head of household or a family member of a household residing in Guro District for at least one year as of the payment reference date, who is caring for a parent or other family member aged 100 or older. However, those who are not cohabiting, such as seniors living in facilities, or those who have not been registered at the same address for at least one year according to the resident registration, are excluded.

The support amount is 200,000 KRW per household. For those turning 100, the allowance is paid in the month of their birthday in the first year they apply. For those already aged 100 or older, the payment is made within 30 days after application at any time.

To apply, the head of household or family representative caring for a parent or family member aged 100 or older must visit the local community service center corresponding to their registered address and submit an application form.

For those turning 100, only a single application is required in the first year, and from the following year, the allowance will be paid automatically every February without the need for reapplication.

The district will accept concentrated applications from seniors who are already aged 100 or older (born on or before December 31, 1924) until August 16.

A Guro District official stated, "We hope that the filial piety allowance will help spread the culture of filial piety in the community and establish a sound family system," adding, "We will continue to strive to enhance senior welfare in the future."

Meanwhile, since January 1 of this year, Guro District has been leading the promotion of respect for the elderly by providing longevity congratulatory payments to seniors turning 100 years old.
