Police to Soon Further Investigate BTS Suga for 'Electric Scooter Drunk Driving'

Additional Investigation Expected on Drinking Circumstances and Amount
Police Begin Administrative Procedures for License Cancellation

Min Yoon-gi (31), known as Suga of the group BTS, who is suspected of riding an electric scooter while intoxicated, is expected to appear at the police station soon for investigation.

On the 11th, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul announced that they plan to summon Suga to the station to investigate the circumstances and amount of his drinking.

On the night of the 6th, Suga fell while riding an electric scooter near his home in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, and was subjected to a breathalyzer test by police patrolling nearby. The test result showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.2227%, exceeding the license cancellation threshold (0.08% or higher).

At the time, the police, not recognizing Suga, treated him as unable to be investigated due to his intoxicated state and allowed him to go home after the breathalyzer test. The electric scooter Suga was riding was not separately confiscated.

Accordingly, Suga is expected to be summoned again for additional investigation, including the preparation of a statement. However, the date of his appearance has not yet been set, and it is understood that Suga’s side has not yet received a summons from the police.

The police have initiated administrative procedures for Suga’s license cancellation.

According to the Road Traffic Act, a person whose driver’s license has been canceled must return their driver’s license to the head of the city or provincial police agency with jurisdiction over their address within seven days from the date the reason for cancellation occurred.

Those subject to license cancellation can apply for and receive a temporary driving certificate from the city or provincial police chief after submitting their driver’s license. The validity period of the temporary driving certificate for those subject to license cancellation is within 40 days.

Typically, the license cancellation is enforced after the validity period of the temporary driving certificate expires, so Suga’s license cancellation process is also expected to take about 40 days.

Suga entered the Nonsan training center in Chungnam in March to undergo basic military training. He is currently serving as a social service agent, and his discharge date is June 2025.
