Geumcheon-gu, Cooking Classes for Dream Start Families on August 10 and 24
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will conduct nutrition education for 20 Dream Start families in two sessions on August 10 and 24.
The district prepared the education to help children develop proper eating habits and to strengthen parents' ability to manage their children's dietary habits. Children and parents experiencing difficulties in healthy physical growth such as short stature, underweight, and obesity can participate.
The education will be held from 10 a.m. for two hours at the shared kitchen on the first floor of the Siheung 5-dong Community Center. It consists of 30 minutes of nutrition theory education and 90 minutes of two cooking practices. A professional instructor will lead the sessions to provide a correct understanding of nutrients and meal planning.
In the first session, under the theme "How to Enjoy Eating Vegetables," participants will learn about the necessity of nutrition management and the healthy effects of vegetables on our bodies. In the practice, they will make tomato tteokbokki and cheese triangle gimbap, which are easy to prepare at home.
In the second session, titled "Understanding Eating Habits for a Healthy Weight," theory education will cover self-reflection on eating habits and understanding healthy weight. Participants will cook bulgogi tofu noodles and naked tanghulu themselves.
The completed dishes will be tasted together by parents and children, providing time to strengthen communication within the family and build bonds.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "Proper dietary education is essential for the safe and healthy growth of children," adding, "I hope this education will raise awareness of the importance of proper nutrition management and provide an opportunity for parents and children to communicate while making healthy meals together."
Meanwhile, Dream Start is a program that provides customized integrated services to vulnerable children. It supports children to grow into happy members of society by promoting healthy growth and development and ensuring equal starting opportunities.
