August 13 Patriotic Hero Taxi Parade... Escort for 20 Participants in 'Songpa Residents' Chorus'
Taegeukgi Raised at 49 Sites in 27 Songpa District Neighborhoods as 'Love for the Nation Taegeukgi Model Streets'
Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) will practice patriotism throughout the region with a Taegeukgi flag-raising campaign on the 12th and 13th in celebration of the 79th Liberation Day.
First, a “Love for the Country Taegeukgi Flag Raising” promotional campaign will be held, organized by private public interest organizations in Songpa-gu. Four organizations will participate in the campaign: Saemaeul Undong, Bareuge Salgi Undong, Korea Freedom Federation, and the Veterans Association.
On the 12th, the Saemaeul Undong Songpa-gu branch will gather about 150 members at 8 a.m. in front of Exit 8 of Jamsil Station to distribute home-use Taegeukgi flags to residents and chant slogans encouraging flag raising.
Then, at 8 a.m. on the 13th, the Bareuge Salgi Undong Songpa-gu Council will start distributing Taegeukgi-patterned fans at Exit 7 of Jamsil Station, followed by the Songpa-gu Veterans Association distributing home-use Taegeukgi flags with about 100 members at the Seokchon Lake East Lake Deck at 10 a.m.
In particular, on the 13th, when the “Songpa Residents’ Grand Chorus” is held, the Korea Freedom Federation Songpa-gu branch will deliver handkerchiefs printed with the Taegeuk pattern to participating related organizations to promote the significance of liberation and the importance of practicing patriotism.
Also, ahead of the grand chorus, a “National Defense Heroes Taxi Parade” will take place. At noon on the 13th, about 20 taxis belonging to the Songpa Exemplary Drivers Association will escort 20 members of veterans’ organizations participating in the chorus from their residences to the event venue, Lotte Concert Hall.
The Songpa Exemplary Drivers Association will also hold a car parade around Seokchon Lake for about 15 minutes with taxis decorated with Taegeukgi flags, allowing people to take in the present-day Songpa, built on the sacrifices of national defense heroes, at a glance.
In addition, the district will raise Taegeukgi flags along the “Taegeukgi Pilot Streets” designated at 49 locations in 27 neighborhoods, along with the 55-meter-tall giant Taegeukgi flag installed at the Garak Market intersection, the tallest in Seoul, to share the joy of liberation with residents.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “It is meaningful to hold a campaign to reflect on our love for the country and honor the patriotic martyrs on the occasion of the 79th Liberation Day,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure that those who devoted and sacrificed for the freedom and prosperity of the Republic of Korea receive proper respect and support.”
