"Enact the Labor Union Act and Broadcasting Act"... Minnochoong and Others Hold Nationwide Rally in Downtown

Organizers Estimate 7,000 Participants

On the 10th, voices urging the immediate promulgation of the recently passed 'Yellow Envelope Act' and 'Broadcasting 4 Acts' echoed through downtown Seoul.

Labor and civic groups such as the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), the Peaceful Unification Citizens' Conference, and the National Peasants' Federation held the '8.15 Nationwide Rally' near Sungnyemun in Jung-gu, Seoul, criticizing the Yoon Suk-yeol administration's exercise of the right to request reconsideration (veto power).

Yang Kyung-soo, chairman of the KCTU, emphasized, "The world can change only if the Labor Union Act and Broadcasting Act are passed," adding, "Although it is said that the Yoon Suk-yeol administration will veto them again, we must not give up."

Kim Kwang-seok, chairman of the National Courier Union, also raised his voice, saying, "The Yoon Suk-yeol administration is expected to reject the amendment to the Labor Union Act again, but we must not be discouraged," and urged, "Let's achieve the amendment to the Labor Union Act, which is the aspiration of irregular and indirectly employed workers."

They pointed out the increasing possibility of military conflict due to the military's resumption of loudspeaker broadcasts toward North Korea and North Korea's release of balloon-borne waste toward the South, calling for the resignation of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration.

Kim Su-hyun, branch chief of Daeryuk Metal at the Ulsan branch of the Metal Workers' Union, said, "The Yoon Suk-yeol administration is accelerating the completion of the Korea-US-Japan alliance according to the US hegemonic strategy," adding, "The resignation of Yoon Suk-yeol is our national interest and historical justice."

According to the organizers, about 7,000 people attended the rally, while the police estimated about 5,000.

Participants filled four lanes over a 370-meter section from near Sungnyemun to near Exit 7 of City Hall Station. After the rally, participants marched from Sungnyemun to Euljiro 1(il)-ga Station → Jonggak Station → Gwanghwamun Station.
