Park Gang-su, the Mayor of Mapo District, continues to carry out on-site administration to care for the people's livelihood despite the ongoing heatwave.

On the morning of the 1st, Mayor Park held a task force headquarters meeting at the Disaster Safety Situation Room to report and inspect the progress of each task force's measures in preparation for the continuing heatwave.

Accordingly, Mapo District operates a T/F team and a heatwave countermeasures headquarters on a regular basis to manage the heatwave situation. They promote heatwave response guidelines for residents through SNS, outdoor electronic billboards, and Mapo TV. They also operate 177 cooling shelters for the elderly, 76 Mapo shade shelters, provide bottled water support for mobile workers, offer cooling cost support for vulnerable groups, and conduct various activities such as lowering road temperatures using water sprinklers in cooperation with public and private sectors, covering not only main roads but also alleyways.

Amid such thorough preparations, Mayor Park Gang-su continues his on-site visits. On the 1st, Mapo District added seven new senior meal service centers for the second half of the year, enabling about 1,200 elderly residents in the area to use the senior meal service.

In particular, the newly opened meal service centers include five senior centers: ▲Ochil Senior Center ▲Nongbau Senior Center ▲Dongmak Senior Center ▲Deokseong Senior Center ▲Gajwa Happiness Senior Center.

Additionally, environmental maintenance of the senior centers has been carried out, making them more comfortable resting places for the elderly during the heatwave.

For a pleasant walking environment in summer, attention is also paid to local cleaning. On the 5th, Mayor Park Gang-su visited Ahyeon-dong and conducted morning cleaning with local resident groups and market merchants' associations, tidying up areas around subway stations with heavy commuter traffic and alleyways near markets, while carefully checking for any inconveniences residents might face due to the heat.

On the 9th, he visited four livelihood sites with related department heads to listen to residents' complaints on-site and seek solutions together.

Notably, the Mapo District Manlijae-ro visited that day had many complaints from local residents because, despite wide sidewalks from the 2017 Seoul pedestrian environment improvement project, the lanes were narrow relative to traffic volume. It was decided to prepare improvement plans through future traffic volume analysis studies. He also inspected places with narrow, steep, and old stairs that made walking difficult, exploring ways to ensure both safety and aesthetics, and urged the relevant department heads to do their best in future construction.

Furthermore, Mayor Park Gang-su frequently patrols various local areas such as Hongdae Red Road, Nanji Theme Tourism Forest Trail, Pet Camping Ground, and small parks, carefully checking for vulnerable spots during the heatwave.
