Heatwave Response Task Force Activated, Emergency Duty Focused on Vulnerable Groups

Gijang County (Governor Jung Jongbok) recently held an emergency inspection meeting on the 9th in response to the recent consecutive heatwaves and announced that administrative resources will be focused on minimizing heatwave damage, such as the occurrence of heat-related illnesses.


The meeting was presided over directly by Governor Jung Jongbok, with the deputy governor, directors of 10 related departments, and department heads in attendance.


Governor Jung instructed the establishment of an emergency response system for summer heatwaves and called for intensive management of key vulnerable groups, including ▲socially and economically disadvantaged individuals ▲outdoor workers ▲elderly agricultural workers.


Additionally, countermeasures to prevent damage to crops, livestock, and farmed fish, worker safety management, and the operation of heatwave mitigation facilities such as cooling shelters and shade canopies were discussed. He urged all-out efforts to prevent heatwave damage.


Jung Jongbok, Governor of Gijang County, emphasized, "Recognize the severity of the current heatwave situation and mobilize all available personnel and resources to minimize damage," adding, "In particular, I hope that even those in welfare blind spots will be thoroughly protected without exception."


With the heatwave expected to continue for the time being, Gijang County is taking proactive measures to implement thorough heatwave countermeasures by expanding and operating a special heatwave response task force (TF) and conducting emergency duty shifts.


In particular, the county is implementing comprehensive safety measures to reduce heatwave damage, including ▲operation of 152 pedestrian crossing shade canopies and 231 cooling shelters ▲operation of 121 air curtains at bus stops ▲operation of an emergency room surveillance system for heat-related illnesses ▲operation of a disaster safety situation room for heatwave response ▲home visit health management projects for vulnerable groups ▲Cool Roof support projects ▲support for air-conditioning costs at senior centers ▲safety checks for heatwave-vulnerable groups through customized elderly care services.
