Major railway projects consecutively secured
Dongbu Construction announced on the 9th that it has been selected as the successful bidder for the Gangneung~Jejin Railway Construction Section 8 Subgrade New Construction and Other Works, commissioned by the Korea Rail Network Authority.
This project involves the construction of two tunnels approximately 14km in length, three bridges, and one station, spanning from Injeong-ri, Jukwang-myeon, Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do to Songjeong-ri, Geojein-eup.
The construction period is 64 months from the start date, with a total contract amount of approximately 315.5 billion KRW. Dongbu Construction is the lead contractor with a 70% stake.
The Donghae Northern Line Gangneung~Jejin single-track electrified railway construction project is a large-scale project with a total budget of 2.7 trillion KRW. Among the nine sections, four sections have undergone contractor selection excluding the five sections currently under construction, and Dongbu Construction secured Section 8, which has the largest contract amount among them.
Dongbu Construction explained that it won this project through thorough preliminary inspections and detailed reviews to understand the regional characteristics in advance, followed by a rigorous cost verification process.
Following last year's Daejang~Hongdae Metropolitan Railway Private Investment Project and Wolgot~Pangyo Double-Track Electrified Railway Section 2, Dongbu Construction has consecutively secured large-scale railway construction projects this year, including the Chuncheon~Sokcho Railway Construction Section 2 Subgrade New Construction and Other Works.
A representative from Dongbu Construction stated, "As the construction industry faces difficulties due to declining profitability, competition in the public construction market is becoming more intense. We are diversifying our business based on experience and achievements in various fields of construction and are further enhancing our competitiveness through new personnel recruitment and other measures."
