Cho Myungrae, the Second Vice Mayor of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, has been referred to the prosecution on charges including violations of the Political Funds Act.
The Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 9th that Vice Mayor Cho was sent to the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office.
The police have been investigating Vice Mayor Cho since last August after receiving a request from the Gyeongnam Election Commission to look into allegations of preliminary electioneering and pre-receipt of benefits.
The police also investigated allegations of forming a private organization but found no evidence, deciding to refer only the violations of the Political Funds Act and the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act.
Vice Mayor Cho is suspected of receiving the cost of a personal officetel and an office for political activities from Mr. A, a member of Hong Nampyo's election campaign during the 2022 nationwide local elections.
Vice Mayor Cho is reportedly denying all charges.
