Gangseo-gu Operates 'Hypertension and Diabetes Awareness Health Class'

Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) is operating the "Hypertension and Diabetes Awareness Health Class" for residents struggling with chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. This health class was prepared to help participants understand chronic diseases like hypertension and diabetes correctly and to easily manage these conditions in daily life.


The health class will be held every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the 4th floor audiovisual room of the Gangseo-gu Health Center, from the 20th of this month to the 10th of next month. The education will be conducted over a total of four sessions, each focusing on specific disease-related topics.


On the 20th, education on hypertension disease, hypertension nutrition, and medication will be provided, and on the 27th, diabetes nutrition and hypertension exercise education will take place. On the 3rd of next month, diabetes disease and diabetes exercise education will be held, followed by exercise education related to hypertension and dyslipidemia on the 10th.


Along with the disease-specific topics, blood pressure and blood sugar measurements, saltiness and sweetness tests will also be conducted. A total of 45 participants will be recruited on a first-come, first-served basis, and applications can be made by visiting or calling the Medical Department of the Gangseo-gu Health Center.


Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, "Through this health class, residents will be able to increase their understanding of hypertension and diabetes and develop healthy lifestyle habits," adding, "We will continue to expand and operate various programs for the health and welfare of residents."


Meanwhile, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, as of 2022, 74.3% of all deaths were due to chronic diseases, and 80.9% of the total medical expenses in the country were spent on chronic diseases. Among chronic diseases, medical expenses for hypertension were the highest as a single disease, followed by diabetes.
