Natural Communication Through Combined Tours and Experiences Instead of Formal Meetings in District Office Conference Rooms
Enhancing Understanding of Excellent Public Resources and Aiming for Promotion and Feedback Effects Through Professional Organizations
On-site Meetings Conducted by Region Discovering 19 Attractions and 37 Facilities
Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will operate meetings of professional organizations active in the district as "on-site visiting meetings" combined with field experiences.
Until now, meetings of professional organizations were conventionally held in meeting rooms within the district office building, but they will now be held at excellent local facilities or landmarks operated by the district.
The target groups are the monthly union meetings of community leaders and monthly residents' autonomy meetings, which are professional organizations based in each neighborhood. Various professional organizations such as the Residents' Welfare Council and the Sports Association, which play a pivotal role in grassroots autonomy in welfare and culture, will step outside their own neighborhoods to better understand the district's overall excellent public resources and serve as a medium for their dissemination.
The venues for the on-site meetings include 19 local landmarks such as Suraksan Sports Town, Woodcraft Experience Center, and Bulamsan Healing Town, as well as 37 facilities with meeting rooms such as Nowon Astronomical Science Museum and Sangsa Irum Center.
During the meetings, the head of the respective facility introduces the entire facility to the members through a tour, followed by experiences and visits, and then the meetings proceed according to the agenda of each organization.
The first on-site visiting meeting was held on July 23 at the "Surak Senior Welfare Center," where the monthly meeting of the Community Leaders' Union took place.
Union members active as community leaders in each neighborhood listened to the introduction of the facility from the welfare center director, experienced various parts of the welfare center, and then conducted the meeting. Opened in July last year, the Surak Senior Welfare Center offers over 40 programs related to leisure, education, and health for seniors. Notably, the Nowon Senior Counseling Center, the first of its kind nationwide directly operated by the district, provides various support services ranging from elderly depression and suicide risk to sexual issues.
One community leader who attended the meeting said, "I knew there was a welfare center in the neighboring district, but I did not realize it was such a detailed and helpful space," and added, "As a community leader and a person in my 60s, I will bring residents from our neighborhood and visit again."
The district plans to continue holding on-site meetings until the end of the year and expand the program next year by organizing target organizations and facilities available for experiences.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, stated, "When members of professional organizations who know the neighborhood well and love the area directly experience the sites, they will see much more than a single district mayor could," and added, "We expect that the on-site visiting meetings will open a space for communication and sharing among local residents."
