Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam received the Minister of Employment and Labor Award at the '2024 National Local Government Job Awards' ceremony held at the EL Tower in Seoul on the 8th.

The 'National Local Government Job Awards,' hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, is the most prestigious comprehensive award ceremony in the job sector, recognizing efforts and achievements in creating local jobs and sharing and spreading best practices. A total of 243 local governments nationwide participate, and each year, awards are given to local governments with outstanding job creation performance based on the previous year's results.


With this award, Changwon Special City has achieved the honor of receiving the Minister of Employment and Labor Award in the public announcement category for the first time during the 8th popularly elected administration.


Last year, the city set a goal of creating 37,194 jobs and achieving an employment rate of 67.5%, establishing five key strategies: ▲Sustainable future responsiveness ▲Creation of eco-friendly future jobs ▲Fair job transition ▲Comprehensive job safety net ▲Robust youth employment, and promoted seven major tasks.


As a result, the city created 37,541 jobs and achieved an employment rate of 69.1% (ages 15?64), surpassing its goals. It also recorded the highest figures ever in major employment indicators such as employment rate, unemployment rate, and the number of regular workers, earning recognition for its remarkable efforts in job creation.


In particular, the city's efforts to create jobs through the future-oriented transformation of traditional manufacturing and the fostering of future new industries were highly praised.


Cho Youngwan, Director of the Economic and Employment Bureau, said, "We are very honored that our city's efforts and excellence in job policies have been recognized," and added, "We will continue to dedicate our administrative capacity to job creation in the second half of the year to vitalize the job market and create high-quality jobs."
