Duty-Free Channel Sales Increase by 92.9% Year-on-Year
Impact of Rising Preference for Differentiated Whiskey Products
Golden Blue International announced on the 8th that the sales volume of the Taiwanese single malt whiskey 'Kavalan' in the first half of this year increased by about 90% compared to the same period last year.
The increase in Kavalan sales was particularly notable in the duty-free channel. Golden Blue International attributes the rise in duty-free sales to the increase in the per-person alcohol duty-free limit from 1 bottle (1L, under $400) to 2 bottles (2L, under $400) starting September 2022, as well as the allowance of alcohol purchases at online duty-free shops since July last year. In fact, Kavalan's duty-free sales volume in the first half of this year increased by 92.9% compared to the same period last year.
Additionally, the company pointed out that changes in recent alcohol consumption trends, with more consumers preferring differentiated products such as third-world whiskeys, have been a major driving force behind the increase in Kavalan sales.
Park So-young, CEO of Golden Blue International, said, “Our efforts of challenge and innovation to present excellent products to consumers have borne good fruit,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure that Kavalan secures an even stronger position in the domestic market through active marketing activities.”
Kavalan is a representative Taiwanese single malt whiskey exclusively imported and distributed by Golden Blue International since 2017. Generally, climates like Taiwan’s, which are hot and humid, have the characteristic of allowing the cask’s flavors to penetrate the raw spirit more quickly. Kavalan utilizes this differentiated maturation method, and despite being a relatively new distillery, it has been recognized worldwide for its excellent technology and quality.
