DeepX, Mass Production of First-Generation On-Device AI Semiconductor Product 'DX-M1'

Samsung Foundry Design House 'Gaonchips' Signs Mass Production Contract

DeepX, an artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor technology company, announced on the 8th that it has signed a contract with Gaonchips, a design house of Samsung Foundry (semiconductor foundry), to mass-produce its first-generation AI semiconductor product, 'DX-M1.'

In June, DeepX received DX-M1 samples from Samsung Foundry and conducted various verifications. It was determined that mass production feasibility was secured in key indicators. Compared to the engineering samples made last year, improvements in computing performance and power consumption were confirmed.

Gaonchips is a leading domestic design house that has secured fabless AI semiconductor companies like DeepX as its clients.

DeepX produced prototypes through multi-project wafers (MPW) utilizing Samsung Foundry's 5, 14, and 28 nm (nanometer; 1 nm = one billionth of a meter) processes in collaboration with Gaonchips. Through this, it provided AI semiconductors and the software development tool 'DXNN' to more than 120 global companies in the U.S., Greater China, Europe, Japan, and other regions. Currently, over 20 companies are developing mass-produced application products. The need for DeepX’s mass production products has arisen.

DeepX conducted compatibility tests with various standard interfaces and form factors required by the industry. It has prepared to respond to diverse apps and portfolios according to customer demands. A DeepX representative said, "We will collaborate on mass production with about 10 global customers in the second half of the year," adding, "We expect the number of customers to increase to more than 20 in the first half of next year."

To target the global market with its first mass-produced product, DeepX established a strategic production group by recruiting talent with over 10 years of experience and know-how in the system semiconductor field. They systematized securing foundry yield (ratio of good products), establishing cost management systems, supply chain management, and building product quality and testing systems.

A DeepX representative stated, "DX-M1 will be an important milestone in successfully entering the global market as Korea’s first AI semiconductor," and added, "Our goal is to provide the best AI solutions that meet diverse customer demands and lead the AI semiconductor market in North America, Greater China, Europe, and other regions."
