On the 8th, LS Marine Solution announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with DFO, a Taiwanese offshore wind vessel specialist, for a business partnership to support offshore wind farm construction.
Through this agreement, LS Marine Solution plans to charter DFO's Service Operation Vessel (SOV) for offshore wind farms and participate in domestic offshore wind farm project bids within this year. This marks the first introduction of an SOV in Korea.
An SOV is a vessel that connects to wind turbine towers during offshore wind farm construction to provide accommodation and catering services. It stays at sea for more than 10 days after departure, offering premium services, earning it the nickname "5-star hotel on the sea."
DFO is a specialized company that has exclusively managed large-scale offshore wind construction support projects in Taiwan. LS Marine Solution plans to acquire operational know-how from DFO to secure a leading position in the domestic market.
Until now, domestic offshore wind farms have been built within about 10 km from the coast, requiring daily commuting from nearby ports.
With the introduction of LS Marine Solution's SOV, workers will be able to work for extended periods at wind farms located tens of kilometers offshore while receiving hotel-grade services.
A company representative stated, "In the SOV business, the Dynamic Positioning (DP) system, which precisely controls the vessel's hull, is crucial. LS Marine Solution has a unique advantage in vessel operation experience with DP systems and owns dedicated piers, giving it strengths in areas such as vessel maintenance."
LS Marine Solution plans to pursue long-term maintenance contracts of 15 to 20 years with each wind farm in the future. It also aims to expand into overseas markets such as the United States and Europe in collaboration with LS Cable & System and LS Eco Energy.
