She held a meeting with the chairperson and the heads of 25 district branches to encourage them.
At the meeting, Chairperson Choi said, "If environmental public officers do not work even for a day, a clean city and the morning of Seoul will not come," and expressed gratitude for their hard work, saying, "Seoul citizens can work in a pleasant and safe environment thanks to the sweat and efforts of environmental public officers."
She continued, "Through my experience as an advisory member of the Seoul Metropolitan Government Labor Union, I have come to understand the difficulties and hardships faced by environmental public officers exposed to various hazards in their working environment," and said, "I will consider the role the council should play to make your working environment more pleasant and safe."
Chairperson Choi also encouraged the attendees, saying, "Your work is essential for the development and well-being of our society and deserves respect. I ask you to carry out your duties with pride."
The Seoul Metropolitan Government Labor Union, which participated in the meeting, is a labor organization composed of environmental public officers belonging to Seoul's autonomous districts. It works to improve the working conditions and economic and social status of environmental public officers. In 2016, through a collective agreement between Seoul City and the Seoul Metropolitan Government Labor Union, the official title of sanitation workers was changed to environmental public officers to improve the negative perception of cleaning work and boost morale.
