Gong Yeong-min, Goheung County Governor, Fully Committed to Minimizing Damage
Measures to Address Damage, Consolation for Fishermen, and Listening to Their Difficulties
Gong Yeong-min, Governor of Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, visited the Gangdodari fish farm in Duwon-myeon, where damage from mass mortality of cultured fish occurred, on the 7th to console the fishermen and urge the establishment of countermeasures and minimization of damage.
The amount of mortality damage reported by the aquaculture households reached 250,000 Gangdodari and other fish, and the cause of death is presumed to be due to high water temperatures.
Along with the recent prolonged heatwave, a high water temperature advisory was issued on the 24th for the Deukryangman and Yeoja Bay areas of Goheung-gun, which was upgraded to a high water temperature warning on the 31st. As a result, the prolonged high water temperature situation continues, raising concerns about additional damage.
During his visit to the fish farms, Governor Gong Yeong-min consoled the fishermen and urged them to do their best in farm management by operating high water temperature response equipment such as liquid oxygen, shade nets, and oxygen generators, and by controlling stocking density and stopping feed supply to minimize damage.
Meanwhile, Goheung-gun is doing its utmost to reduce damage to aquaculture fishermen. For the farms where damage reports have been received, thorough on-site investigations and cause identification are being conducted, and the National Institute of Fisheries Science Namhae Fisheries Research Institute will be requested to analyze the cause for accurate investigation.
