A police officer conducting a DUI checkpoint in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, was seriously injured after being hit by a motorcycle driven by a teenager.
On the 7th, the Cheonan Seobuk Police Station announced that they had apprehended and were investigating a teenager, referred to as A, on charges including obstruction of official duties.
According to the police, at around 9 p.m. on the 6th, A allegedly struck a police officer with a motorcycle during a DUI checkpoint on a road in Baekseok-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan, causing serious injuries.
At the time, A was riding the motorcycle without wearing a helmet. When the police signaled for him to stop for inspection, he attempted to evade by maneuvering around barricades and police vehicles.
During the escape attempt, A hit the police officer with the motorcycle, resulting in a fractured leg. The officer was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Police investigations revealed that A was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident and was in possession of a valid driver's license.
The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
