'Climate Crisis Adaptation Measures Implementation Plan' Report Meeting Held
Jung Jang-seon, mayor of Pyeongtaek City, Gyeonggi Province, expressed his determination to focus policy efforts on the transportation and building sectors to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
On the 7th, Pyeongtaek City held a 'Climate Crisis Adaptation Action Plan' briefing attended by Mayor Jung and heads of 16 departments. The briefing aimed to develop measures to enhance urban competitiveness through greenhouse gas reduction in response to the ongoing climate crisis, including heatwaves and droughts.

At the briefing, Mayor Jung stated, "We will make continuous efforts and provide administrative support to ensure the successful implementation of various projects and policies for climate crisis response and the transition to a carbon-neutral city." He added, "We will do our best to make Pyeongtaek a leading city in carbon neutrality by collaborating with citizens, institutions, and businesses."
The briefing included expert explanations on Pyeongtaek City's Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth Basic Plan (2025?2034) and the 3rd Climate Crisis Adaptation Measures, as well as reports on the progress of 31 detailed implementation plans for 13 major projects across 8 sectors.
The city plans to focus policy efforts on the transportation and building sectors, which account for more than 40% of greenhouse gas emissions, to establish specialized climate response strategies and prepare adaptation measures for health and natural disasters expected due to climate change. Additionally, the city will establish a Carbon Neutral Green Growth Basic Plan to create customized sector-specific and annual greenhouse gas reduction roadmaps for proactive response.
