Bus Driver Regains Consciousness After CPR on Airport Bus
A nurse from Chungnam National University Hospital saved a bus driver who had gone into cardiac arrest by performing CPR.
According to Chungnam National University Hospital on the 7th, Hong Naeun, a nurse from the cardiology department, was on an airport bus heading from Incheon Airport to Daejeon on the afternoon of the 5th when the driver, Mr. A, felt unwell and made a brief stop at a rest area. Nurse Hong, who was on the same bus, checked Mr. A's condition after he complained of chest pain, asked about his symptoms, and immediately called emergency services (119).
While waiting for the paramedics to arrive, Mr. A lost consciousness, had no pulse, and was not breathing. Nurse Hong, together with other passengers, moved the unconscious driver from the driver's seat to outside the bus and began performing CPR. After about five minutes of chest compressions, his pulse returned and he gasped for air. By the time Mr. A’s heartbeat gradually recovered, the paramedics arrived and transported him to a nearby hospital. Mr. A regained consciousness after being taken to the hospital.
Hong Naeun said, "I have cared for many patients during my nine years as a nurse at a university hospital and have received CPR training every year," and added, "Thanks to the excellent training I received at the hospital and my experience in the cardiology ward, I was able to save the driver's life."
