Officials from Thailand's Ministry of Transport and Japan's Tottori Prefecture Benchmark Busan Port

Introduction to Advanced Operation Facilities and Equipment at Busan Port Authority

Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced that on the 6th, officials from the Ministry of Transport of Thailand and representatives from Tottori Prefecture, Japan, visited Busan Port to benchmark its operation and management know-how and discuss cooperation measures.

In the morning, the delegation led by Vice Director Vichean Paemanukonrak of the Thai Ministry of Transport received a briefing on Busan Port’s operational system, eco-friendly port policies, and future development plans, and toured the North Port redevelopment area.

They also inquired about various port operation issues, such as the shortage of container boxes and disruptions in maritime supply chains during the COVID-19 pandemic, and listened to BPA’s response strategies.

Since 2015, the Thai government has been investing 81 trillion won to significantly expand the country’s logistics infrastructure, including ports, airports, roads, and railways. This visit was planned to benchmark Busan Port’s development experience and operational expertise.

On the same afternoon, a group of 12 officials from Tottori Prefecture, Japan, including Economic and Industrial Promotion Director Sasaki Toru, visited Busan Port. The Tottori delegation toured the New Port and showed great interest in domestically produced automated cargo handling equipment and the Jinhae New Port development plan.

BPA explained the time and cost-saving benefits that shippers in the western region of Japan can gain by transshipping import and export cargo through Busan Port, and proposed strengthening cooperation between Sakai Port in Tottori Prefecture and Busan Port.

BPA President Kang Junseok stated, “Both Thailand and Japan are important trade partners for Busan Port. We will continue to expand exchanges and share Busan Port’s advanced operational know-how to further strengthen our global network.”
