During the meeting, Prosecutor General Lee referred to the occasion shortly after his inauguration on September 19, 2022, when he visited the National Police Agency and discussed measures to respond to 'stalking crimes' with Commissioner Yoon. He expressed deep gratitude for the police's active cooperation with the prosecution in responding to crimes affecting the public across various fields.
In particular, the two discussed several cases including: ▲the incident where, immediately after the stabbing rampages in Sillim-dong and Bundang, they communicated by phone to coordinate responses amid public anxiety over numerous predicted copycat crimes; ▲the joint response in July 2022 by establishing a 'Voice Phishing Task Force' that included 20 dispatched police officers; ▲the January last year meeting on measures against jeonse fraud, which led to the establishment of prosecution-police hotlines across seven major regions nationwide; ▲the April last year establishment of a 'Special Investigation Headquarters for Drug Crimes' involving 974 personnel from related agencies working together with the police to intensify drug crime responses; and ▲the collaborative case last June where, by utilizing the DNA database, they identified the serial killer from Jinju who committed crimes decades ago and prosecuted 10 long-unsolved sexual violence cases, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office reported.
Earlier, Prosecutor General Lee had emphasized cooperation with dedicated police officers by visiting the National Police Agency's 'Voice Phishing Integrated Reporting and Response Center' on November 21 last year, and the Bucheon Wonmi Police Station on December 12 of the same year to meet officers deployed on the front lines of public safety.
A representative from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office stated, "At the meeting held ahead of Commissioner Yoon's retirement, both the prosecution and police agreed to continue active communication and cooperation, and to do their utmost to protect the fundamental rights of the public from crime."
