Long-awaited Projects for Mulgeumeup Residents to Be Completed Within This Year
Yangsan City, Gyeongnam, announced that an outdoor stage capable of hosting medium to large-scale events will be installed at Hwangsan Park in the second half of the year.
The outdoor stage to be installed will be a deck stage (30m x 14.8m) with a membrane structure pergola (35m x 19m).
Until now, during various community events in Mulgeum-eup, the existing central plaza stage at Hwangsan Park (deck stage 7m x 13.5m) was considered too small, leading many Mulgeum-eup residents to request the installation of a larger outdoor stage. As the current central plaza stage was cramped, various civil complaints continued to arise, prompting comprehensive reviews such as demolition, expansion, and other alternatives after removing the central plaza stage.
However, since the central plaza stage cost over 200 million KRW in 2020 and was a facility that even received river occupancy approval, demolishing and reinstalling it would have been a waste of budget. After gathering opinions from Mulgeum-eup residents, it was finally decided to demolish the existing membrane structure at Munju Plaza, where stone stands and a lawn yard are already installed, and build the new outdoor stage there.
The city explained the necessity of installing the outdoor stage at Hwangsan Park to the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office through ongoing administrative consultations, and, by designing the membrane structure considering the national river flood control plan and other factors, recently received final approval for river occupancy for the outdoor stage at Munju Plaza at the end of July.
During the first supplementary budget this year, the city secured 500 million KRW entirely from the city budget for construction costs, and, with active cooperation from regional Gyeongnam Provincial Assembly members Lee Youngsoo and Lee Yongsik, an additional 200 million KRW in special adjustment grants was also secured.
Through construction in the second half of the year, the new stage will be used as a secondary stage for the Yangsan Chrysanthemum Festival (scheduled for late October 2024) and as the main event stage for the Mulgeum Cherry Blossom Festival (scheduled for late March 2025). This is expected to reduce future budget expenditures related to stage and facility installations for various events in Mulgeum-eup.
Additionally, starting from April next year, to promote various cultural performances such as busking at Hwangsan Park, a dedicated busking bulletin board will be created on the Yangsan City website, allowing anyone to apply for free, with priority given to Yangsan citizens for usage.
Mayor Na Dongyeon stated, "We are finally able to install a long-awaited medium or larger outdoor stage in Hwangsan Park for Mulgeum-eup. Small-scale performances will be held at the existing central plaza outdoor stage, while medium-scale performances can be held at the newly established Munju Plaza outdoor stage. I hope citizens will enjoy refreshing performances and various cultural events accompanied by music."
