Helped a Man in His 60s Who Collapsed Near an Abandoned House Amid Heatwave
A police trainee drew attention by achieving the rare feat of apprehending a wanted suspect on his very first day at work. The incident occurred while assisting an intoxicated person who had collapsed in the heat.
According to the Busanjin Police Station in Busan on the 7th, at around 3:15 p.m. on July 31, Inspector Ha Sungwoo (53) and Officer Lee Dongun (27) from the Gaya Police Box were on patrol near the residential redevelopment area in Gayadong, Busanjin-gu, Busan.
With the daytime temperature reaching 34 degrees Celsius and a heat wave warning in effect, the officers were conducting foot patrols to prevent possible safety accidents in an area with many vacant and abandoned houses.
Inspector Ha said, "Despite the hot weather, I went out on patrol with the new police trainee for the safety of the citizens."
That day was Officer Lee's first day at the police box as a trainee. During the patrol, Officer Lee found a man in his 60s, heavily intoxicated, collapsed in a secluded spot under the sweltering heat.
The officers helped the man to a shaded area and attempted to assist him home, but due to his inebriated state, it was difficult to determine his address. Upon checking his personal information, they found two outstanding warrants and handed him over to the prosecution.
Officer Lee shared, "On my first day of field training after graduating from the police academy, I was able to apprehend a wanted suspect," and added, "I want to become a reliable police officer who protects the safety of citizens."
