Next Year's Public Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle, Special, and Extracurricular Teacher Appointments
Total Number of Selected Candidates Increases by 1,177 Compared to Last Year
The Ministry of Education plans to increase the number of elementary and special education teachers to be recruited next year as it selects fixed-term research officers ahead of the full implementation of Neulbom School.
According to the '2025 Academic Year Public Kindergarten, Elementary, Secondary, Special, and Non-curricular New Teacher Appointment Exam Preliminary Announcement Status' announced by the Ministry of Education on the 7th, a total of 10,975 new teachers will be recruited in next year's teacher appointment exam.
This is an increase of 1,177 recruits compared to the previous year (based on the final announcement). Kindergarten teachers will increase by 73 to 377, elementary teachers by 1,088 to 4,245, and secondary teachers by 296 to 4,814. Special education teachers will decrease by 23 to 733, health teachers by 16 to 363, nutrition teachers by 38 to 238, librarian teachers by 34 to 50, and professional counseling teachers by 169 to 155.
However, the final number of recruits to be announced in September to October may increase beyond the preliminary announced numbers.
Despite the declining school-age population, the increase in the recruitment scale of elementary and secondary teachers compared to the previous year appears to be due to the Neulbom School policy, which will be fully implemented from the second semester of this year. The Ministry of Education explained that the increase in the number of elementary and special school teachers recruited is because "the number of personnel selected as Neulbom Support Office Heads at each school and transferred to fixed-term educational researchers (local government officials) was considered, and the demand for new hires was additionally reflected temporarily over one to two years."
Provincial and metropolitan offices of education must announce the planned number of recruits for the public new teacher appointment exam at least six months in advance according to the 'Rules for the Competitive Examination for Selection of Education Public Officials Candidates.' The planned number of recruits by each education office is posted on the websites of the 17 provincial and metropolitan offices of education.
