Samsung Electronics has passed the qual test (quality verification) to supply Nvidia with the 5th generation high-bandwidth memory (HBM), HBM3E (8-stack), according to major U.S. media reports on the 7th.
According to foreign media and local sources, Samsung Electronics and Nvidia are expected to sign a supply contract soon, with supply starting from the fourth quarter. However, sources told the media that testing for the 5th generation HBM, specifically HBM3E (12-stack), is still ongoing. If true, this is expected to bring changes to the HBM market landscape. SK Hynix, which currently leads the market, has been exclusively supplying HBM3 to Nvidia and began mass-producing and supplying HBM3E (8-stack) to Nvidia in March.
