According to Reuters and other sources on the 6th (local time), Harvard stated in the lawsuit filed the previous day in a federal court in Texas that Samsung Electronics' methods for producing microprocessors and memory products infringe on two patents held by Professor Roy Gordon of Harvard's Chemistry Department.

The patents cover new processes and materials for thin-film deposition related to cobalt and tungsten substances, which are essential for core components in various products such as computers and mobile phones. Harvard claims that Samsung Electronics uses these patented processes to manufacture microprocessors and memory chips for smartphones. Additionally, Harvard has requested the court to prevent Samsung's patent infringement and seek monetary damages of a specific amount.

Bloomberg Law reported that Harvard believes the patented technology is used in Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Z Flip5 devices.
