June Trade Deficit Decreases by 2.5% Month-on-Month
Impact of Increased Goods and Services Exports
The United States' trade deficit in June this year decreased for the first time in three months, supported by an increase in exports of goods and services.
On the 6th (local time), the U.S. Department of Commerce announced that the trade deficit in June this year was $73.1 billion, down 2.5% from the previous month ($75.0 billion). This is the first reduction in the trade deficit in three months.
However, the size of the trade deficit in June exceeded the Bloomberg consensus forecast of a $72.5 billion deficit.
Exports recorded $265.9 billion, up 1.5% from the previous month, while imports increased 0.6% to $339.0 billion during the same period.
On an inflation-adjusted basis, the goods trade deficit in June was $91.4 billion, also the smallest in three months.
