"Must Resolve for Ruling and Opposition Cooperation"
Expos? During Jeon Dae Process... Installed Under Representative Han Dong-hoon's Directive
The People Power Party will establish a task force (TF) to support 37 current and former lawmakers and National Assembly aides who have been on trial for five years since 2019 under the fast-track process. Assemblyman Joo Jin-woo, the party's legal advisory committee chairman, will serve as the TF leader.
On the 6th, Han Ji-ah, the senior spokesperson for the People Power Party, held a press conference at the National Assembly communication office and announced the launch of the TF, stating, "The fast-track case arose in the process of blocking the Democratic Party's legislative dominance, and it is an urgent issue that must be resolved to prevent the politicization of the judiciary and to promote cooperation between the ruling and opposition parties." Senior spokesperson Han added, "Assemblyman Joo will lead the TF to analyze the existing trial details and actively support future legal responses and strategies."
In 2019, lawmakers from the Liberty Korea Party (the predecessor of the People Power Party), including then floor leader Na Kyung-won, were indicted after physically blocking the Democratic Party's designation and processing of the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Act as a fast-track bill, and they are still on trial. During the 4th People Power Party convention, then-candidate Han Dong-hoon revealed that he had asked Na Kyung-won to request the cancellation of the fast-track case prosecution from him (when he was Minister of Justice), to which he responded, "I told her that it was not possible." This TF was established under Han's directive.
When asked whether the TF was a gesture of reconciliation following the revelations during the party convention, senior spokesperson Han replied, "It is partly a matter of reconciliation and an important aspect, but I believe it is only natural for the party to support and back those who have devoted themselves to our party."
