"Analyzing Volkswagen's strong fan base, there is still considerable demand for diesel vehicles. Diesel cars offer long driving ranges, powerful torque, and high efficiency. Therefore, we decided to introduce the Touareg diesel model."
On the 6th, Til Scheer, President of Volkswagen Group Korea, said this during a press meeting at the partial facelift Touareg launch event held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Yongsan, Seoul. Scheer stated, "The automotive industry is currently going through a transitional period," adding, "While electrification is underway, there is still customer demand for diesel vehicles."
Scheer described the Korean market as "very challenging and difficult." Domestic brands like Hyundai and Kia are holding strong, and the imported car market is increasing its share mainly with premium brands. For a mass brand like Volkswagen, it is not easy to find gaps to penetrate in this market.

The newly launched vehicle is the third-generation partial facelift model of Volkswagen's flagship sport utility vehicle (SUV), the Touareg. It secures product competitiveness by adding advanced safety and convenience features befitting a flagship model, along with a stylish exterior design. The prices are Prestige at 100,990,000 KRW and R-Line at 100,699,000 KRW (including VAT).
The new Touareg is equipped with the brand's first advanced intelligent lighting system, the 'IQ.Light HD Matrix Headlights.' More than 38,000 interactive LEDs provide optimized lighting by integrating information such as driving speed, cameras, navigation, and GPS, offering better illumination than previous systems. This enables trouble-free driving in various nighttime driving conditions.
The 'IQ.Light HD Matrix Headlights' offer a total of 12 lighting modes, with a notable feature being the advanced technology that partially illuminates the road without disturbing the vision of oncoming drivers. In particular, the lane light projects a 'Carpet of Light' on the current or changing lane, and the lane change warning function projects a distinct linear light on the adjacent lane boundary area when a vehicle is detected in the side lane during a lane change attempt.
The Touareg comes standard with the Danish premium audio system 'Dynaudio Consequence' across all trims. Soft door closing and rear seat door curtains have also been added to all trims.
This partial facelift Touareg features the 'Innovision Cockpit,' consisting of a 12-inch digital cockpit, a 15-inch MIB3 Discover Pro Max infotainment system, and a head-up display. According to Volkswagen officials, this is designed to showcase the essence of an intuitive digital interface. The MIB3 infotainment system supports wireless smartphone App-Connect and gesture control. The system is activated by the command "Hello Volkswagen" and allows voice control of various functions, including climate control.
The new Touareg is equipped with the powerful and efficient 'EA897 evo3 V6 3.0 TDI engine.' Combined with an all-wheel-drive system and an 8-speed automatic transmission, it delivers a maximum output of 286 horsepower and a peak torque of 61.2 kg·m. The official fuel efficiency is 10.8 km/l in combined driving.
Additionally, the new Touareg comes standard with the state-of-the-art driver assistance system 'IQ.Drive' across all trims. It includes ▲Front Cross Traffic Assist, which detects traffic at intersections and warns of or performs emergency braking for front blind spot hazards ▲Travel Assist, which integrates cameras, sensors, adaptive cruise control, and lane assist to actively support driving ▲and a proactive occupant protection system that responds to accident risks in all areas to protect occupants.
Scheer said, "The Touareg model itself has a strong fan base," and added, "We expect it to receive a positive response from Korean customers who have demanding standards such as advanced features, reliable high performance, reasonable pricing, and economic efficiency."
