At a press conference held on the 6th at the National Assembly Communication Office in Yeouido, Seoul, Candidate Jeong said, "I am a person with many shortcomings. Therefore, I am making even greater efforts to reflect on and be cautious of myself," adding, "However, it is very painful that the (sexual harassment allegation) case, which was acquitted, is still being spread as if it were true, and that my sincere apology and reflection are being repeatedly brought up again and again." He then emphasized, "Please do not forget that there is a brutal Yoon Seok-yeol regime before us. Our attacking energy should be directed at the Yoon regime."
He also argued that he must be elected as a Supreme Council member to impeach President Yoon. Candidate Jeong said, "Jeong Bong-ju, who has no parliamentary badge, no faction, and no background, needs at least the position of Supreme Council member to play a role in the great fight of impeaching Yoon Seok-yeol," adding, "Now is the time to fight, and the time when Jeong Bong-ju is needed."
He encouraged active participation of party members in the primary election. As of the previous day, the cumulative online voting rate of eligible party members for the Democratic Party’s party leader election was 26.47%. Candidate Jeong said, "A red light is already on for participation (in the primary)," adding, "The Yoon regime and the conservative camp have already launched a full-scale offensive in unison to disparage the Democratic Party by ignoring party members and causing a failure in turnout."
Furthermore, he stressed, "The newly born Democratic Party’s Yoon Seok-yeol impeachment leadership is about to be hampered even before its launch," and "The Yoon Seok-yeol impeachment train has already departed. To arrive at the destination as quickly and intact as possible, party members’ participation is essential above all."
According to the Democratic Party, as of the 4th, Candidate Jeong’s cumulative vote share was 15.61%, ranking second after Candidate Kim Min-seok (17.58%). At the national party convention on the 18th, one party leader and five Supreme Council members of the Democratic Party will be confirmed.
