A Variety of Events Including 'Mulban Gogi Ban' Bandujabi and Water Play Experience Center
The '2024 Yeongdeok Hwanggeumeuneo Festival,' held at the Osipcheon riverside in Yeongdeok-gun, North Gyeongsang Province, concluded on the 4th with enthusiastic support from vacationers and local residents.
With the theme 'The Whisper of Nature That Comforts the Heart, Embraced by Yeongdeok Hwanggeumeuneo,' this festival featured a variety of performances such as celebration stages and busking, as well as diverse hands-on activities for the whole family. These included Hwanggeumeuneo bandu fishing, a bare-handed catching experience for children, family water play, and sky swing experiences. Local specialties such as peaches and food trucks offered a rich array of food, delighting participants' senses.
In particular, the festival's signature event, Hwanggeumeuneo bandu fishing, supplied a large quantity of sweetfish so that participants could experience the thrill of fishing in a venue where there was 'half water, half fish.' Anyone could enjoy the excitement of catching fish in the clear, cold waters of the Osipcheon, and for children who found it difficult to catch fish with a bandu, a free bare-handed catching experience was provided, ensuring everyone could enjoy the festival.
Additionally, to help visitors escape the hot weather, extra attractions such as a water slide and water trampoline were added to the family water play area, and a water gun survival game was held, offering tourists a variety of water play experiences.
Furthermore, Yeongdeok-gun and the organizing committee provided cold packs and ice packs to maintain the freshness of the sweetfish, and used special containers for fried and grilled dishes to ensure hygiene and convenience. Safety personnel were stationed at the family water play area at all times, and the festival concluded without a single safety incident.
Kim Kwangyeol, the county governor, commented, "This festival is a family event where modern people, exhausted in both body and mind, can recharge their energy by connecting with nature through Yeongdeok's specialty Hwanggeumeuneo and the clear, cool Osipcheon." He added, "Together with the organizing committee, we will analyze and improve both the shortcomings and strengths of the festival so that the Yeongdeok Hwanggeumeuneo Festival can become Korea's representative summer festival with even more diverse content and experiential programs."
