Yangcheon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the 6th that it will provide a "Free Brokerage Service for Low-Income Households," which supports real estate brokerage fees up to 300,000 KRW when economically vulnerable groups enter into lease contracts.
The "Free Brokerage Service for Low-Income Households" is a program that supports brokerage fees incurred during housing lease transactions for vulnerable groups. Since its first operation in 2014, the district has supported a total of 810 households with over 66 million KRW.
Recently, with the rise in housing rental prices leading to a simultaneous increase in real estate brokerage fees, the economic difficulties of low-income groups have also increased. Since last year, the district expanded the support target from only livelihood and medical benefit recipients to all basic livelihood security recipients (housing, livelihood, medical, and education benefits). As a result, by the end of 2023, the number of supported households increased 1.4 times compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 96 households.
The district plans to actively continue the program this year as well by identifying the status of basic livelihood security recipients who have registered their move to Yangcheon-gu and providing individual guidance to ensure that all eligible recipients receive brokerage fee support benefits without omission.
The support scope covers housing lease contracts under 75 million KRW. Eligible residents wishing to apply should bring ▲a copy of the lease contract ▲brokerage fee receipt ▲certificate of recipient status ▲a copy of their bankbook ▲resident registration certificate, etc., and submit them together when registering their move at the local community service center.
Meanwhile, the district also operates the "Safe Lease Contract Assistance Service for Single-Person Households," which provides free support for real estate contracts for single-person households such as young adults starting their careers or elderly living alone who face difficulties in real estate contracts. Additionally, the "Jeonse Damage Support Center" is operated to report and connect support for cases of jeonse (long-term deposit lease) fraud.
Mayor Lee Gi-jae said, "Since housing is the most basic and important element of life, we will strive to discover eligible recipients actively to ensure no one is left out," and added, "We will continue to work hard to establish detailed support measures so that residents can live their daily lives in a stable housing environment."
