Humanities Book Concert Held on September 6 at Nowon-gu Citizens' Hall Auditorium... Participants Accepted on a First-Come, First-Served Basis from August 8... Book Concert Continues This Year Following Last Year, Cultural City Nowon Comforts Citizens Weary from Daily Life
Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it is recruiting participants under the theme "Our Today and Tomorrow" to commemorate the 4th anniversary of the humanities book concert.
The humanities book concert combining book talks and performances, titled "The Overlooked Personal Things," is a representative humanities content of the district that reexamines the "personal but universal and precious values" that are easy to overlook in busy daily life and helps discover a deeper self.
This year's book concert will be held twice at the Nowon-gu Citizens' Hall auditorium. The first book concert will take place on September 6, hosted by literary critic Heo Hee, featuring writer Jang Ryujin and singer-songwriter Stella Jang. Under the theme "Don't Give Up," they will share the sorrows and joys felt by modern people and have a time to share their own ways of enduring today and preparing for tomorrow.
Jang Ryujin entered the literary world by winning the 21st Changbi New Writer's Award in 2018 with her short story collection "The Joy and Sorrow of Work." She has continued her steady literary activities by publishing the novel "Let's Go to the Moon" and the short story collection "Yeonsu," realistically and calmly portraying various stories from everyday life, gaining empathy from many readers.
The music performance linked to the lecture will be prepared by singer-songwriter Stella Jang, who will deliver comfort and hope through her unique tone and realistic lyrics.
The second performance will be held on November 8 under the title "Being Alone is My Nature," featuring Mind Miner Song Gil-young, singer-songwriters Coffee Boy and Jay Rabbit's Hyesun, and sociologist Noh Myung-woo. They will discuss social changes and their impact on individuals and family relationships, as well as attitudes and independence that modern people should have going forward.
Song Gil-young is well known as a Mind Miner who uncovers the spirit of the times through big data. His books include "Here Your Desires Are Visible," "Don't Imagine," and "Era Forecast: The Age of the Nuclear Individual." He has gained attention through lectures and research that provide insights into current and future social trends based on data-driven social analysis and future predictions.
The book concerts are all free of charge. Reservations can be made from 2 p.m. on August 8 through the Naver reservation page, and detailed information can be found on the Nowon Cultural Foundation website.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, "This year's humanities book concert is a place to discuss issues faced by modern people in a rapidly changing society and to present new perspectives," adding, "I hope many people participate and have a meaningful time to deeply reflect on topics they usually worry about and find their own answers."
