Carlos Yulo (24), who became the first male athlete in Philippine history to win an Olympic gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, is drawing attention for the rewards he will receive.

On the 3rd (local time), at the Arena Bercy during the men's gymnastics floor exercise final at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Yulo scored 15.000 points, becoming the second-ever and first male Filipino to win an Olympic gold medal. Then, on the 4th, he won his second gold medal in the vault final with an average score of 15.116 points from two attempts.

According to Philippine media such as the Manila Bulletin, the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Congress will award the country's gold medalists 10 million pesos (approximately 235 million KRW) and 3 million pesos (70.5 million KRW), respectively.

In addition, the Philippine government will provide a house worth 24 million pesos (564 million KRW) with two bedrooms and fully furnished at no cost. Furthermore, Yulo can receive free colonoscopy and gastroenterology examinations until the age of 45, and will also receive furniture worth 100,000 pesos (2.35 million KRW) for free. Free ramen and buffet meals are also included as bonuses.

Since these rewards are based on one gold medal, the benefits Yulo will receive as a double gold medalist are expected to exceed this. Moreover, substantial sponsorships are anticipated to follow.

Netizens responded to the news with surprise, saying things like, "At 24, sitting on a pile of money, I'm jealous," "He deserves it as the first male gold medalist," "He's a hero in the Philippines," "The free buffet is the real jackpot," "Our country's benefits were nothing compared to this," and "The rewards are truly amazing."
