Pohang City Mobilizes All-Out Response for Heatwave Citizen Safety... Holds Emergency Countermeasure Meeting Pohang City held an emergency countermeasure meeting to fully respond to citizen safety during the heatwave.

This meeting, held under the special directive of Deputy Mayor Jang Sangkil, was attended by heads of 29 towns and districts as well as department heads overseeing construction and project sites. Participants shared the measures taken in response to the heat wave warning issued in the Pohang area since the end of last month, discussed cases of damage occurring nationwide, and explored on-site countermeasures to prevent casualties.

As the heat wave is expected to continue for about another week, the city has designated this period as a 'Special Heat Wave Countermeasure Period' and will make every effort in prevention, guidance, and publicity to ensure that no heat-related illnesses occur.

Accordingly, the city will recommend suspending construction during high-risk heat hours at all city-ordered projects and construction sites, and will strengthen safety measures by requiring compliance with guidelines to ensure construction workers receive adequate rest.

In particular, to minimize the occurrence of heat-related illnesses, the city will expand the current village patrol teams, and continue to implement disaster alerts and warning broadcasts, disaster text messages, and the operation of shade canopies.

Additionally, special safety management will be implemented for people working alone, such as elderly farmers and delivery workers, and intensive health management will be strongly promoted for vulnerable groups such as elderly care recipients and seniors living alone through visits and phone calls.

Furthermore, the city plans to actively promote heat wave response guidelines and precautions to citizens to prevent damage from the heat, and to strengthen guidance for vulnerable groups such as senior centers through village broadcasts and patrols.

Heo Jungwook, Director of the Urban Safety and Housing Bureau, said, "Please do your utmost in field-oriented responses to reduce citizen inconvenience and prevent heat-related illnesses during the heat wave," and added, "We also ask citizens to refrain from outdoor activities and work during high-risk heat hours and to take sufficient rest, following personal health protection guidelines."

Currently, Pohang City operates 634 cooling shelters, 218 shade canopies (213 fixed, 5 smart types), 3 mist spray installations, and 29 smart bus stops as heat reduction facilities.
