Support for Renovation of Convenience Facilities and Development of Tourism Content

Ministry of Culture and Tourism Organization Launch Contest for Barrier-Free Tourism 'Open Tourist Sites'

Open Tourist Sites refer to barrier-free tourist destinations where anyone can engage in tourism activities without restrictions. The government has been promoting development projects since 2015. Walking paths, ramps, and level differences are improved to alleviate mobility inconveniences. Experience content is also developed to allow visitors to fully enjoy the attractions according to different types of disabilities. Currently, 162 sites nationwide have been selected, and development has been completed at 132 locations.

This call for applications targets tourism zones composed of at least two tourist spots. Selected local governments will receive support such as customized barrier-free environment consulting for each tourist spot, renovation and repair of convenience facilities at major tourist sites, establishment of guidance systems tailored to different disability types, development of tourism content, staff training, and online and offline promotion.

Local governments that already have Open Tourist Sites may also apply by adding just one more tourist spot. Additionally, even tourist sites that have already established barrier-free tourism environments can apply if they require experience content, promotion, consulting, or management and operation of barrier-free programs.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold a project briefing session on the 14th at Grape Lounge in Jung-gu, Seoul. The session will provide guidance on the project direction and how to prepare the project proposal.
