The extension of Subway Line 8, the Byeollae Line (Amsa~Byeollae), connecting Byeollae Station in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, and Amsa Station in Seoul, will begin full operation from the 10th.

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 5th that on the 9th, a grand opening ceremony and a trial ride will be held at Byeollae Station with Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province and ordinary citizens.

The extended Byeollae Line is a 12.9 km route connecting a total of six stations from Amsa Station in Gangdong-gu, Seoul, on the existing Line 8 to Byeollae Station in Namyangju. The six stations are Amsa Station Park, Jangja Lake Park, Guri, Donggureung, Dasan, and Byeollae Station.

A total of 1.3806 trillion KRW was invested, with the Guri and Namyangju sections managed by Gyeonggi Province and the Gangdong-gu section managed by Seoul City.

The Byeollae Line trains consist of one 6-car train set, with a travel time of about 4 minutes and 50 seconds during rush hours, about 8 minutes during off-peak hours, and a maximum speed of 80 km/h.

With the opening of the Byeollae Line, travel time from Byeollae Station to Jamsil will be reduced by about 18 minutes, from about 45 minutes with two transfers to 27 minutes.

Park Jae-young, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Railroad, Port, and Logistics Bureau, said, "With the opening of the Byeollae Line, it takes 27 minutes from Byeollae to Jamsil and 18 minutes from Guri Station. Transfers will be possible to Line 2 (Jamsil), Line 3 (Garak Market), Line 5 (Cheonho), Line 9 (Seokchon), Suin-Bundang Line (Bokjeong, Moran), Gyeongui-Jungang Line (Guri), and Gyeongchun Line (Byeollae). We expect a revolutionary improvement in the quality of life for residents through improved transportation conditions and reduced commuting times in the northeastern region of Gyeonggi Province," he added.
