President Yoon Suk-yeol congratulated South Korea's archery team on sweeping all five events for the first time in history on the 4th.
In a Facebook message that day, President Yoon said, "It was a breathtaking match," and added, "Kim Woo-jin (Cheongju City Hall) is truly amazing."
He continued, "Congratulations on winning three gold medals in archery at the Paris Olympics, the most gold medals ever won at the Olympics with five," and sent a message of support, saying, "Team Korea, fighting!"
With Kim Woo-jin adding another gold medal in archery that day, Korean archery proved itself as the "world's strongest" by sweeping all five Olympic gold medals for the first time in history.
Kim Woo-jin defeated Brady Ellison of the United States 6-5 in a shoot-off after a fierce battle in the men's individual archery final at the 2024 Paris Olympics held in Paris, France.
This is the first time in eight years and the second time ever that Korean archery has swept the Olympic gold medals since the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, where four gold medals were at stake.
With the introduction of the mixed team event at the 2021 Tokyo Games, the number of archery gold medals increased to five.
