The prosecution has filed a summary indictment against a senior administrative officer affiliated with the Presidential Office on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to the legal community on the 4th, the Criminal Division 2 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Chu Hye-yoon) filed a summary indictment against Mr. Kang on the 1st for drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act, requesting a fine of 8 million won. A summary indictment is a disposition in which, for relatively minor offenses, the court is asked to impose a fine or penalty without a formal trial, through a written review.
Mr. Kang is accused of drunk driving around 9:50 p.m. on June 7 in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu. At the time, Mr. Kang refused the breathalyzer test twice but complied on the third request, which resulted in a blood alcohol concentration at the level warranting license cancellation (0.08% or higher). The Presidential Office excluded Mr. Kang from his duties on the 19th of last month, 42 days after the drunk driving incident became known.
