Voluntary Pet Registration Reporting Period from August 5 to September 30
Crackdown on Unregistered or Unreported Changes for One Month Starting in October
Busan City will operate a voluntary animal registration reporting period from the 5th until September 30.
This voluntary reporting period is being implemented to encourage citizens who have not registered their companion dogs to participate in registration voluntarily.
During the voluntary reporting period, fines for unregistered companion animals or delayed reporting of changes will be waived.
According to the current “Animal Protection Act,” dogs over two months old kept for companionship must be registered, and registration must be completed within 30 days from the date of acquiring ownership or from the date the animal becomes subject to registration.
Animal registration can be done by visiting an animal hospital designated as an animal registration agency by the district or county office, where a wireless electronic identification device is attached to the companion dog.
The wireless electronic identification device can be chosen between an internal type, which is inserted into the body, and an external type, such as a collar.
However, since there is a risk of loss or damage with the external type, the internal type is recommended.
Change notifications can be made online through the National Animal Protection Management System.
However, for “ownership change notifications,” you must visit the district or county office in person to report.
If a registered animal is lost, you must report the change within 10 days.
In cases such as ▲change of owner ▲change of owner’s name, resident registration number, address, or phone number ▲death of the registered animal ▲recovery of a lost animal ▲no longer keeping the registered animal in Korea ▲inability to use the wireless electronic identification device, changes must be reported within 30 days.
After this voluntary reporting period ends, the city plans to conduct a month-long intensive crackdown in each district and county starting in October, targeting those who have not registered their companion dogs or have not reported changes.
If you fail to register an animal subject to registration or do not report changes to registered information, a fine of up to 600,000 won may be imposed.
Shim Sungtae, Director of the City’s Maritime, Agriculture, and Fisheries Bureau, stated, “Animal registration is the first step toward fostering a mature companion animal culture,” and added, “We ask for the interest and participation of pet owners during this voluntary reporting period.”
