South Korea's national team aces Kim Woo-jin (Cheongju City Hall) and Lim Si-hyun (Korea National Sport University) sounded the victory horn in the mixed team final, becoming double gold medalists at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Now, Lim Si-hyun and Kim Woo-jin will challenge for a triple crown in the individual events.
On the 2nd, Lim Si-hyun and Kim Woo-jin defeated Germany's Michelle Kroppen and Florian Unruh 6-0 (38-35 36-35 36-35) in the mixed team final held at Les Invalides in Paris, France.
Having won gold medals with their teammates in the men's and women's team events respectively, they showcased fantastic synergy once again in the mixed team event to claim their second gold medal. Now, Lim Si-hyun and Kim Woo-jin will aim for a triple crown in the individual events. Including them, all six Korean archers have advanced to the round of 16 in the individual competitions.
South Korea achieved back-to-back titles in this event, following the inaugural mixed team gold won by An San (Gwangju Bank) and Kim Je-deok (Yecheon County Office) at the 2021 Tokyo Games, where the mixed team event was first introduced.
Lim Si-hyun, who was first selected for the national first team last year and emerged like a comet by winning three gold medals at the Hangzhou Asian Games, will challenge for a triple crown in the women's individual event concluding on the 3rd. So far, the only archer to have won three gold medals at the Olympics is An San from the Tokyo Games.
Kim Woo-jin, recognized as the world's best male archer and a key contributor to South Korea's three consecutive Olympic golds in the men's team event, won an Olympic medal outside the men's team event for the first time. With this victory, Kim Woo-jin joined Kim Soo-nyung (archery), Jin Jong-oh (shooting), and Jeon Yi-kyung (short track) as the all-time record holders for the most gold medals at both Summer and Winter Olympics (4 golds). Kim Woo-jin will also aim for a triple crown in the men's individual event ending on the 4th.
South Korean archery secured its 30th Olympic gold medal in total. So far, South Korea has won 10 gold medals in the women's team event, 9 in the women's individual event, 7 in the men's team event, and 2 each in the men's individual and mixed team events.
