Director Yeon Sang-ho's independent film "Eolgul" (Face) began filming on the 27th of last month, the production company Wowpoint announced on the 2nd.
"Eolgul" tells the story of the son of visually impaired seal engraving artisan Im Young-gyu, who discovers the skeletal remains of his mother, thought to have been missing for 40 years, and uncovers the truth. Director Yeon adapted his 2018 graphic novel of the same name into a live-action film. The movie has attracted industry attention for its new production method. It is a low-budget film costing around 200 million KRW, with actors significantly reducing their fees. The production team consists of about 20 people, roughly one-third the size of a commercial film crew.
Park Jung-min, who previously collaborated with Director Yeon on the film "Psychokinesis" (2018) and the OTT Netflix series "Hellbound" (2021), takes on a dual role as the son Im Dong-hwan and the father Im Young-gyu from 40 years ago. Im Sung-jae plays the president of the Cheonggyecheon garment factory where Im Dong-hwan's mother, Jung Young-hee, worked, and Han Ji-hyun portrays the PD of a documentary about the seal engraving artisan Im Dong-hwan. Additionally, Shin Hyun-bin and Kwon Hae-hyo also appear in the film.
