Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Park Seong-hyun, YGPA) announced that it started the first lecture of the 1st Port Logistics Leaders Academy on July 31, jointly hosted with the Gwangyang Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chairman Woo Gwang-il).

The 1st Port Logistics Leaders Academy was launched to jointly explore the activation of port logistics and future development directions of Yeosu and Gwangyang Ports with executives and employees of related port logistics organizations and opinion leaders in the region, and to establish governance for building a competitive smart port.

The 1st Port Logistics Leaders Academy consists of 25 members, including CEO Lim Young-gil of KIT, Chairman Jo Yong-hyun of the Yeosu Gwangyang Marine Association, and CEO Yeom Ki-woon of Taewoong Global. Over the next six months, they will participate in joint education, book learning, and free discussions every fourth Wednesday of the month.

The first lecture of the 1st Port Logistics Leaders Academy featured Lim Ki-taek, Honorary Secretary-General of the IMO (International Maritime Organization), known as the "Marine President," who led the education on international maritime trends and development plans for Yeosu and Gwangyang Ports.

During the joint education, participants studied international maritime trends in response to climate change and shared the shipping and logistics directions of major advanced countries such as Europe.

Through discussions, it was anticipated that Yeosu and Gwangyang Ports will need countermeasures to supply renewable energy to eco-friendly ships (methanol, ammonia, hydrogen, etc.), and that these changes in shipping logistics will present new challenges and opportunities for Yeosu and Gwangyang Ports.

President Park Seong-hyun said, "It was a meaningful time to envision the future of Yeosu and Gwangyang Ports together with the academy participants and to plan future policies. I thank Chairman Woo Gwang-il of the Gwangyang Chamber of Commerce and Industry for his support in successfully hosting this Leaders Academy, as well as the representatives of shipping and port-related organizations and companies who actively participated. We will develop the opinions from this academy into policies and apply them to Yeosu and Gwangyang Ports."
