Busan Ulsan Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters, 243 Elementary Students in Changwon from August 1 to 29
The Busan Ulsan Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters of the National Health Insurance Service will operate the 'Dolgorae Swimming Class' for 243 elementary school students in Changwon from August 1 to 29, utilizing the summer vacation period.
The 'Dolgorae Swimming Class' is a health promotion program aimed at supporting the healthy growth of youth. On the first day of class (August 1), the program began with safety education and a health lecture on obesity and addiction prevention for youth.
Currently, the increase in youth obesity rates and issues related to addiction such as gaming, smoking, and drugs, which threaten mental health, are emerging as serious social problems. In response, the organization has launched the swimming class to prevent obesity through physical activity and to provide opportunities for healthy leisure activities.
Additionally, according to Statistics Korea's 2022 Cause of Death Statistics, drowning ranks third among causes of accidental death in youth. Therefore, the organization plans to focus the classes on basic swimming and survival swimming, helping youth develop physical skills and learn to protect themselves in water-related emergencies.
The organization began recruiting participants through the Changwon Facilities Corporation website after signing a business agreement for youth health promotion. From August 1 to 29, the classes will be held at the Changwon Facilities Corporation (Neulpureunjeondang) swimming pool, five days a week (Monday to Friday), one hour per day, across eight classes. All fees are fully covered by the organization, making the program free of charge.
In particular, the safety of students participating in the swimming class will be the top priority, with tailored lessons provided according to skill level under the systematic guidance of professional swimming instructors.
Choi Deokgeun, head of the regional headquarters, stated, "We hope that the physical activities through this swimming class will serve as an opportunity to prevent youth obesity and block health risk factors. We will continue to support the safe and healthy growth of youth, who are the leaders of the future, and strive even more for health promotion."
